The cheese addicts mantra

Everyone in their right mind agrees
On the wonders of glorious cheese.
Without it I'm a bitch
With a nasty eye twitch
It's an addiction I must daily appease.

I have three pleasures each morning, arriving at the shop. A good cup of coffee, the old oak tree opposite the shop and a group of eight little sparrows who constantly fly across to the shop looking for a few crumbs (which of course we now provide). It took just 8 days for the old oak tree to go from leafless to an absolute sea of vibrant green. What an inspiration! To hell with the Olympics, Springboks, Proteas, politicians and crime! Drive around with your window open and experience the myriad of aromas wafting in, heralding a fresh start.

It's a busy time on the cheese farms right now. Goat farms are kidding, sheep lambing and cows calving – what do buffalo do …

Perhaps I'll stick to waxing cheese.

We have planned two happenings for you – Spring Day Sale on Saturday 30 August and the Heritage day - 24 September – Cheese Gourmet Country Tour

Spring Day Sale - Saturday 30 August

It's Spring and new beginnings. Why should we be any different - so from Saturday we will have a mountain of goodies on sale at discounted prices, including Balsamic vinegar, jams, pickles, oils, biscuits and lots more.

Chocolat de Belgique, a chocolatier in Thrupps Centre is providing tasters of her chocolate. We will be stocking a range of her chocolates and will launch these on Saturday. I wonder what a piece of Old Gouda or a salty piece of feta dipped in dark chocolate would taste like?

Bella Vita Mushrooms will be offering tastes of their Shitake Mushroom chutney and salsa. These products are a great addition to pasta dishes as well as sandwich spreads, curries and stews.

The Pork pies and home cured bacon we launched last tasting day are selling really well and worth a try. Peter has re-introduced his Beef chipolatas made with free-range beef and as usual no cereal added, making all the sausages gluten free.

Green fig preserve from Weltevrede farm in Prince Albert is back in stock and a large batch of dried figs are in the post, due in soon.

Heritage Day - 24 September – Cheese Gourmet Country Tour

Join us on an exciting full day tour of the Hartebeespoort area, visiting goat and cows milk cheese makers, probably the largest 'farm stall' you will ever see, Heartwood smokehouse and lunch at African Swiss Restaurant.

Heartwood Smokehouse – Roy has established his smokehouse on his property and now produces a range of smoked meats, trout, bacon and cheese. He will have some smoked pork hocks in a sticky sauce for sale as well. I am told that these are really wonderful.
